Fall becomes official this month and brands are releasing their new collections, so let’s chat about one of my favorite things— fall denim trends 2025. As a die-hard, denim lover this is one of my favorite seasonal blog posts to write. If you also love denim, welcome, let’s geek out together. : )

Baggy // Wide Leg // Barrel // Straight // Bootcut // Dress // Shirt // Vest // Skirt // Bomber // Peplum // Barn Coat // Cropped // Trench
If you see something you like you can shop for the item(s) and support my blog at the same time by purchasing through the affiliate links in this post. As always, I’m so grateful for your support!
I tried to be more concise this season, fitting the main details onto one page. Could we go deeper? Yes, but here are the most important things you need to know about what is happening in denim this season.
Styles:
As I noted in the spring, denim seems to only be growing as a category (hooray!). It feels like a really innovative space right now, full of creativity and variety.
With that said, I think that most everything out there comes down to five styles or silohuettes, maybe six— baggy, wide leg, straight leg, bootcut/flare, and barrel.
The sixth that I didn’t include is skinny. You can find skinny jeans out there but I don’t see a meaningful presence of them in the market, currently. I see some slim straight jeans— much slimmer than a true straight leg jean and also not a true skinny jean. There was talk of skinny jeans making a resurgence. I see them here and there, but I just don’t see them represented in brands collections—still…..yet? Maybe when winter rolls around and people want to wear jeans under their tall boots— we shall see.
These five styles are the core shapes you’ll find as you shop for denim this fall. Yes, you’ll find additional detailing and stylistic differences— i.e. trouser styling on a wide leg jean, utility details on a barrel leg jean, studs, embroidery. etc., but the core shapes are these five.
BAGGY (mid, budget)— volume and space everywhere, the waist, hips, bottom, and through the legs. This style is the most relaxed and undone-looking. It’s most often worn low on the hips and is the biggest hit right now with Gen Z and Gen Alpha. If you have teenagers, you know. : )
WIDE LEG (mid, budget)— a fitted top block, through the waist, hips, and bottom, with volume in the legs. Overall they look less relaxed and more refined than baggy styles.
BARREL (mid, mid-budget, budget)— this is the “it” style of the season. I’ve been talking about it for years (i.e. AGOLDE Balloon Jeans in 2021 & Citizens of Humanity Horseshoe Jeans in 2023), but I wasn’t sure if it would ever become as popular as it is now. Initial reactions to this shape were very polarizing. I’ve always thought the curve of the leg shape looks feminine and interesting. I’m so glad it’s resonating with more people. This shape is everywhere this season, all the way down to kids sizes at Old Navy.
STRAIGHT (mid, budget)— the most classic and timeless shape, like the Levi’s 501’s that have been in-demand for 50 plus years and will never go out of style. This shape is understated, wearable, and gives off confident, anti-trend energy.
BOOTCUT (mid, budget)— it’s back, along with many other early 2000s trends (spoiler alert: the “going out top” and bag charms are back). Best styled with a pointy-toe shoe/boot, this silhouette is being revived and the modern take is a slim bootcut. This feels like the “new” fresh, style the early adopters are wearing. I got this pair last fall and reviewed it earlier this year. Bootcut jeans are being heavily represented across denim brands this season.
I would also put flare jeans (budget) into this category, as we are talking about overall shape here. It’s the quintessential 70s style that never goes away, especially with those who gravitate towards retro and/or boho style. Similar in shape but with a more exaggerate leg than the modern, slim bootcut that’s set to make an impact this season.
Washes:
Washes do not disappoint this season, I’m seeing a variety. The deep dark indigo is still prevalent, as well as the ever-present light, medium, and dark indigo washes. Additionally, winter whites and earthly neutrals— cream, tan, brown, are still having a moment. If there is one pop of color to call out, I see a bit of red.
Let’s also talk about fabrics. Of course, I have to call out Citizens of Humanity Group (COH and AGOLDE) for their sustainability practices. They’ve created an innovative eco-indigo dye and a regenerative cotton program. These are premium brands and an investment, but if you’re able to shop in these price points, they’re worth it.
For most of the current popular styles, 100% cotton or a 99% cotton 1% elastane blend still seems to be the most popular. In bootcut and flare styles, you’re likely to find more stretch and thinner fabric to accommodate the intended sleek fit. When you get to budget jeans you’ll find some brands adding in polyester and other fibers.
Rises:
Like it or not, low-rise is back. I see it being heavily represented within the premium denim brands. It’s not mainstream yet, but it’s coming.
Mid-rise has been back for the last couple falls, and it seems to be more prevalent this year.
Don’t worry— If you prefer high-rise, it hasn’t gone away.
I really like when all options are out there. When it comes to fit, for petite ladies sometimes a high-rise is tricky and a mid-rise or even low-rise fits better. Also, I think the more variety there is— rises, shapes, washes, etc., the less we all look exactly the same, which I’m a fan of. Denim is one of my very favorite things. I enjoy experimenting in this category. When there is variety, it expands the fun.
Clothing:
Another category that I see growing in variety of styles is jackets. Some of the most sought after trends each season are in this category. In recent years, denim has made its way beyond the traditional denim jacket and onto silhouettes like trench coats, blazers, and bomber jackets.
The barn coat with contrasting collar has surged in popularity, thanks to Prada. It’s being represented in denim in a big way this fall. Also, the denim peplum jacket is an emerging style.
As always, vests, dresses, button-up shirts, and skirts are all here in denim as well. The main skirt styles I’m seeing are a-line midi, and short skirts carrying over from summer.
This season I see more dark washes than ever in all shapes of denim jackets. Branching off traditional denim jackets, I’m seeing a bit of a pivot from oversized styles dominating to cropped styles being the leader.
I love oversized denim shirts, this one is my favorite. The freshest take on these are styles that have a bit of a western flair to them, a huge trend this fall— suede, fringe (did you see my fringe denim jacket!?), western boots, western details/styling on clothing, horses prints, bandanas.— I digress, more on fall 2025 trends coming soon.
Styling:
How are we wearing denim for fall 2025? One major way (that is one of my favorites) is double denim or denim on denim. I love it with contrasted washes, or matching as a true monochromatic look. Here are a bunch of ways I’ve worn double denim in recent years.

Where to Buy?
,PREMIUM BRANDS ($175 – $350):
My favorite two in this category, as evidenced by my reviews, are AGOLDE and Citizens of Humanity.
I also recently got jeans from Rails and Paige that I really like. I have jeans from FRAME that are good. If I get another bootcut jean, I’m considering MOTHER, a brand I used to wear many years ago.
Other brands in this category on my radar to try: SLVRLAKE, LA LIGNE, Reformation, Rag & Bone, Nili Lotan, and the local Nashville brand, imogene + willie.
My go-to places to shop for premium denim online: Shopbop & REVOLVE.
MID-RANGE ($80 – $150):
Sézane is great for clean-looking washes and styling, They have a handful of styles and offer lots of blue and colorful washes.
Levi’s will always be the quintessential, American denim brand offering a variety of styles that have become iconic through the years.
GAP is right behind Levi’s as a classic, American denim brand with a wide offering of styles, sizes/lengths and washes. This brand falls somewhere between mid-range and budget as they run a lot of sales, dropping the prices down substantially.
Madewell has great washes and styles with a good size range and reasonable prices.
Abercrombie offers both regular and curvy cuts. They also have a good size range and different lengths.
Pistola is a brand I’ve been wanting to try based on feedback from you all plus what they look like.
Everlane is one I want to recommend because I see their styles looking fantastic on some of my friends, but as someone with a curvy shape their jeans never fit me quite right. If you’re straighter through the hips and waist these could be great for you. They offer three lengths and lots of sizes. I love their clean, elevated aesthetic.
For relaxed, statement jeans, Free People’s own brand We the Free is a good one to check out. They have prints, colors, patched and distressed styles.
BUDGET($25 – $60):
When it comes to budget denim, you can’t beat the price, availability, style and size range (including different length options) at Old Navy. Drawbacks, in my opinion, are lots of the washes look cheap to me— but not all. I think the fit is good for the price, but still can’t be compared to how well jeans fit from premium denim brands.
ZARA has better washes than old navy, and very fashion-forward silhouettes. Their jeans cost a little bit more than Old Navy but are still really affordable. They’re more limited in sizing and length compared to Old Navy.
If you made it this far, thanks for sticking with me and reading my thoughts on fall denim trends 2025! If you’re looking to learn more about specific styles of jean that I own, check out my denim reviews, here.
I’d love to hear from you in the comments below. What styles and washes are you excited to wear this season? What are your favorite brands to shop for denim? What will you be skipping this season?
Happy denim-ing!! (hopefully, I just made up that word) : )
