We had extra cold temps in Nashville over the past couple of weeks, so I was wearing all of my winter wardrobe essentials for 2025-2026. This year I decided to make a small group of essentials that are meant to be added to the fall essentials I posted in September. While it does get cold enough for winter accessories here, living in the south means I very rarely need snow boots or extra base layers for added warmth.

Coats & Jackets
These two styles together cover the full range of outfits you will wear this winter, from gym clothes to formal attire and everything in-between.
TAILORED COAT— this clean, classic silhouette goes with everything. You can wear it over formal attire, with jeans, and even over your favorite sweatsuit. It’s a timeless piece that can carry you through many winters. I opted for a navy coat but any neutral would be just as versatile.
PUFFER COAT— as a contrast to the longer, tailored style I opted for a cropped version in a lighter neutral tone. While I wouldn’t wear this with formal attire, this style of coat works over all everyday outfits, athleisure, and your gym outfits.
Tops
These aren’t the only tops you’ll wear this winter, but they’re the most important bases for building your cold weather outfits.
TURTLENECKS— the most full-coverage shirt you can get, no cold neck today. I think turtlenecks always look effortlessly chic and elevated on their own. They’re also great to wear under all kinds of sweaters and jackets, keeping you cozy on the coldest days.
LONG SLEEVE TEES— as much as I love basic, short-sleeved tees, when it’s cold you just need more coverage to stay warm. I personally love fitted, long-sleeve tees as they’re perfect under layers but also work well alone, pairing nicely with the more baggy and wide-leg pant styles we’re wearing the most right now.
SWEATER-SAVING BASE— these sweat-proof undershirts are the best to wear under sweaters. I have beige, white, and black and every year I reach for them when I don’t want a shirt to show under a sweater, and to save my sweaters from being washed too often.
Cold Weather Accessories
All of these items are necessary to stay warm outside on cold days. Luckily, they also add interest to your winter outfits. They come in many different colors and prints, allowing you to add pops of color and your personality while being bundled up. This season, there has been a lot of cool design variety and I’m more excited about these accessories than I’ve been in a long time.
SCARVES— hooded infinity, faux fur, bandana and fringe. There are so many cool styles out this season, pick your favorite, scarves make all the difference when you’re standing or walking in the cold.
GLOVES— leather & convertible mitten gloves are what I’m wearing this season. Pick any style that you like, this essential can live in your coat pockets all season long so you’re never without some much needed warmth for your hands.
EAR MUFFS— great to grab when you will be outside but do not want to put on a hat that will leave your hair flat. Also, they look super cute.
BEANIE— the classic, timeless winter hat you can throw on to be warm. This works with all everyday outfits.
CASHMERE SOCKS— super warm but not too thick, great to pair with boots because no one likes having cold toes.
SHEER TIGHTS— the perfect layer to add when reaching for skirts and dresses on cold days. While they’re not thick or wildy warm, even just a small layer to avoid bare legs really helps.
Fashion Accessories
These aren’t winter specific, but still feel key in making your winter outfits look complete and cool.
SUNGLASSES— there may be a lack of heat, but on sunny, cold days there is no lack of light— often necessary and always chic in your winter outfits.
BELTS— brown and black are my favorite basic colors, with interesting buckles, texture, or accents. With all of the long-length clothing that winter calls for, belts are a great way to break up your full-coverage look. They also make outfits feel more put together, complete, and elevated.
Shoes & Boots
Necessary for the weather, yes, especially if you live in a snowy climate. But also fashionable, and key drivers in the feeling of your winter outfits. The best shoes for winter marry function and fashion, leaving you weather-ready and stylish at the same time.
KNEE BOOTS— back and bigger than ever, I wear mine with sheer tights or knee socks if it’s not too cold. I like pairing these with skirts, dresses, and leggings.
LUG SOLE BOOTS (code: MICHELLE10)— great for traction, keeping your feet a bit elevated off the ground, and stylish. I cannot recommend the ones I have enough. They’re water-resistant, versatile, and they look cool.
FUR-LINED, FLUFFY OR SNOW BOOTS— practical, high-quality snow boots for those of you in snowy climates are a must. I am more in the fluffy, fur-lined zone for keeping warm but not needing something snow-proof.
SNEAKERS— great in every season, I like to wear mine with long socks and full-length jeans in the winter months.
Thanks for checking out my fall wardrobe essentials 2025-2026! I hope this is an inspirational reminder to make sure you have what you need to be weather-ready this season. Is there anything else you’d add to this list?
