Let’s take a look at denim shorts and skirt trends, summer 2025 edition. I’m not sure what it’s like where you live, but we’re getting some hot days in Nashville. I’ve already pulled out my shorts for the summer season and I’ve been browsing new summer denim styles from my favorite denim brands.
Most of what I see for details are what we saw on spring jeans now making their way onto summer shorts. As far as silhouettes, the biggest trend I see that feels new-ish, is longer shorts— to the knee and below. This has been happening on the fringes, but it feels like the hemlines have gotten even longer and I’m seeing the longer styles trickle down into more affordable brands verses just being present in designer and premium denim. Plus, within the premium brands I see a larger presence of the longer styles. And in direct opposition to that, I’m seeing shorter shorts than I’ve seen the last few seasons. We’ve been living in the short to mid-length short zone for awhile. Now, I see more of the extremes entering the picture in a more substantial way than last year. What is cool about this, is there is something for everyone. Whatever your preference is for length, you’ll find it from daisy dukes to bermudas.

Denim Brands to Shop:
I own denim shorts in all three ranges, affordable, mid-range, and premium. I am a huge denim fan and have been wearing premium denim for twenty years. The cost is higher, but so is the quality, fit, and materials. This is my preference and most of what I own and what fits my body best. If you don’t share the same enthusiasm for denim, there are absolutely options that are great at lower price points. Here are the places I shop in the different price ranges.
Affordable—
H&M— (price range $25-$40) You’ll find a variety of on-trend styles and washes here. To me the quality matches the price. I find the fit, material and construction quality to be inconsistent but‚— if you find a pair that fits well/works they can be great.
ZARA— (price range $40-$50) You’ll find a variety of on-trend styles and washes here. I think the quality on all fronts is a bump up from H&M for just a slight price increase.
OLD NAVY— (price range $15-$40 and always have sales) As I type this there is a sale making many of the shorts $15. When you catch a sale, which happens often. you can get the best prices here. If you like stretchy denim, this is a good option. I think the fit is pretty good, but the washes and materials are mostly lacking to me. You have to search for the best pair or two here.
Mid Range—
LEVI’S— (price range $50-$80) The most iconic American denim brand. I love both modern and vintage jeans and shorts from this brand and the prices are great.
ABERCROMBIE— (price range $60-$70) The shorts here are very popular and are known to be dupes of AGOLDE for half the price. I think they are perfect for the price, and I do own a pair, but they don’t fit nearly as well as AGOLDE.
GAP— (price range $60-80 but often have sales) I haven’t purchased shorts here in years, but I’ve been so impressed overall with this brand lately and they’re known for their denim.
DENIM FORUM (ARITZIA)— (price range $68-$78) These are the best dupes I’ve found for AGOLDE shorts. The fit is great, the washes are good but again, AGOLDE’s washes are better.
MADEWELL— (price range $78 – $98) I really like the shorts here. The prices are reasonable, fit is pretty good. I don’t love when they add tencel and stretch to their materials, I prefer the 100% cotton pairs.
EVERLANE— (price range $88 – $118) The styles here are clean and minimalist. They feel elevated and versatile. If you have more of a straight shape, I think this brand works better than if you’re curvy. I always want to love their shorts and jeans on me, but they don’t fit my shape super well. I see them look great on my less curvy friends.
Premium—
AGOLDE— (price range $148 – $188) My all-time favorite denim brand because of the fit, materials, washes, and details. They’re an investment and honestly the prices keep going up. With that said, they use regenerative cotton and farming practices and sustainable dyes. To me, there are worth the investment.
CITIZENS OF HUMANITY— (price range $178 – $238) A sister brand to AGOLDE, I love everything about their styles as well. Between the two I think AGOLDE fits better for me. The prices are a bit higher from this brand, but lately I’ve been loving the styles and washes they’ve been releasing in jeans and have purchased quite a few.
