I am a millennial who turned sixteen in the year 2000 and here is my review of the AGOLDE Low Rise Loose Jean. I’m a middle-aged mom, trying this style for all of us who lived through the low-rise denim era once already. Denim is my favorite clothing category to explore in, and I love writing denim reviews. I am super interested in trying new styles that come out, but— I must like them and feel they align with my style. AGOLDE is my go-to brand because the fit, washes, and material are consistently the best for me.
How modern low-rise jeans differ from Y2K jeans.

I know what you might be thinking— never again. If you feel hesitant or resistant, I get it. I will not be slipping back into any now vintage, low-rise jeans from the early 2000s. When things come back around in fashion, they often do as a more modern interpretation of past styles.
How are the new low-rise jeans different? There are a couple of major differences that I can see from what I wore in high school and this new style from AGOLDE. First, back then the low was too low, both in the front and in the back. Second, the material from that era was too thin and stretchy. As denim design evolves and the category expands in depth and popularity, so does the fit, quality, and materials we see in modern styles.
How do AGOLDE Low Rise Loose Jeans fit?

Left is size 28 & Right is size 27 – I loved both of the washes I tried on, and it was so hard to choose. Tee.
AGOLDE’s website suggests getting your true size in the Low Rise Loose Jean for the intended relaxed, low-rise fit. I tried on both my true size (27) and a size up (28). Both of them fit me and I do agree that they run true to size.
With that said, as someone who has a curvy shape and has had multiple children, I sized up one because I wanted to go towards a baggy fit verses risk any squeezing in the hip/waist area. Choose your size according to the fit you prefer. After wearing the jeans multiple days in a row, I’m happy with the size up and they do look baggy-ish as they’ve relaxed with wear. I also think my true size would have relaxed to fit perfectly, for the intended loose fit, as well.
The rise is 9 1/4″ with a button fly closure. I think the style looks low-rise but feels close to a mid-rise on— not the low, low of a Y2K jean. On me, they come up to a couple of inches below my belly button and up even higher in the back. The inseam is full-length, 31.5″. I’m 5’7″ and you can see the length on me in the photos in this post. They have a straight, loose leg shape with a 19″ opening at the ankle, which is truly loose, as that measurement lands somewhere between a true straight leg jean and a baggy style leg.
What are AGOLDE Low Rise Loose Jeans made of?
The Low Rise Loose Jean is made of 100% regenerative cotton. What is regenerative cotton? You can read all about Citizens of Humanity Regenerative Cotton Program, here. I highly recommend you read about it— it’s a great sustainability practice.
The denim is rigid yet soft, there are no stretchy fibers added to it. It will form to your shape and relax with wear. This style is currently available in seven washes on AGOLDE’s website. I have the medium, worn-in, indigo wash (vault). They are also available in: clean dark indigo (pure), bright medium indigo (charge), light dusty indigo (amplify), washed out black (symbolic), pure black (cover), classic white (marshmallow).

Tank // Jeans (sized up one) // Bag (code: MICHELLE15 for 15% off your first order) // Sneakers
This is the outfit I wore last week, on my 42nd birthday. It was a warm, sunny day with temps in the seventies. I love the color combo, interesting shapes, and laid-back feel of this outfit. This combo works really well for warm spring days.
2.) Cropped Jacket + Fitted Tee + Low-Rise Jeans + Boots
Jacket // Shirt // Jeans (sized up one) // Bag (code: MICHELLE15 for 15% off your first order) // Boots
This second outfit is a bit more elevated. The fitted top and chic jacket + accessories make a great everyday elevated outfit that could also be worn in a casual work environment. I always love the look of denim with neutrals.
3.) Crewneck Sweatshirt + AGOLDE Low Rise Loose Jean + Sneakers

Sweatshirt (old – similar) // Jeans (sized up one) // Bag (code: MICHELLE15 for 15% off your first order) // Sneakers
This next look is another casual option. Here, I’m wearing the same sneakers as the birthday outfit, but with a crewneck sweatshirt for a chillier day. The bag and sunglasses take it up a notch to complete the perfect weekend look.
4.) Double Denim + Fun Accessories

Jacket // Jeans (sized up one) // Tee // Bag & Charm // Shoes – new print (code: MICHELLE10 for 10% off your first order)
Double denim with fun accessories is one of my forever favorite combos. In this outfit, I’m wearing contrasting denim washes over a white tee. The tee, bag, and shoes all come together with coordinating colors.
5.) Sleeveless Shirt + Low Rise Loose Jeans + Belt + Flats
Shirt (old – similar) //Jeans (sized up one) // Belt // Bag (old from Sézane) // Shoes (code: MICHELLE10 for 10% off your first order)
The last outfit feels feminine and works when the weather is warm. I wanted to try the jeans with a belt and it definitely works. I like the slimmer belt, texture on the top, and elevated accessories.
