Spring is here and I’m excited to be sharing my spring wardrobe essentials 2026! As soon as I started to intentionally plan my wardrobe each season, I stopped having the “I have nothing to wear” feeling, became more sure of my style, and (almost completely) stopped buying things I’d later regret.
I am not personally a capsule girl. I don’t like the idea of clothes sitting in my closet that I “can’t wear” because they didn’t make it into my capsule. Minimalism and the outfit-making-ease of a capsule is great for some (if that is you— amazing), but it just isn’t me. As of now, the only time I might be capsule-ing is categorically, more on that coming soon.
For me, making outfits is like making art and I want all the “crayons” from my “crayon box”. As an “F” on the Myers-Briggs, I wear what I feel like, or am in the mood to wear, each day. My wardrobe isn’t just about efficiency or practicality, it’s about creatively expressing my personal style. My style is always evolving, and I enjoy being free to stretch my comfort zone, experiment and grow it. I like variety, not being too bored, and switching things up.
With that said— my free-spirited self has also learned that structure and intentionality aren’t limitations but rather facilitators of greater creativity.
How to Build Your Spring Wardrobe:
I think of my wardrobe in layers.
The foundational layer is versatile basics— clothing and accessories. Versatile items that are the backbone of your wardrobe should be planned and gathered first. Together, they could serve as a capsule if you want to be minimal and stop there. If they’re intentionally picked and cohesive as a group, you’ll be able to make lots of outfits. Sticking with neutrals and a few select colors helps with this. I’ll share some ideas below.
Examples in this layer would be: your perfect pair of jeans, a white tee, classic handbag, and the flat shoes you wear on repeat.
Added onto that is a second layer of statement pieces— clothing and accessories. Pieces that are more of a statement, with details and visual interest, can be mixed in with your essentials to make outfits more interesting. Plus, you’ll be able to make even more outfits. For me, they bring in more creative energy, juxtaposition, and help my outfits align best with my personal style which includes pops of whimsy. I enjoy being open and free to add fun, new, and even experimental pieces to my wardrobe, to stretch and expand my style.
Examples in this layer would be: pieces with colors, prints, and/or exaggerated silhouettes and textures.
